Influenza A in swine and swine workers
Locations
China
Project overview
This project was a 5-year (2015–2019) prospective cohort study of swine workers in China to identify patterns of Influenza A emergence and transmission in swine and the risk of influenza infection in swine workers. The study used the One Health-oriented approach to follow the swine workers and their pigs, as well as to examine swine farm environments, as a source for influenza A virus persistence and transmission. Sampling and data collection were conducted on farm workers (biological specimens and symptoms questionnaires), pigs (oral secretions), and farm environments (water, fecal slurry and aerosol). The study employed virological and immunological methods for surveillance and viral transmission and immune response.
