Joe is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Global Health at the Duke Global Health Institute. Joe is an epidemiologist who collaborates with and provides epidemiological and statistical support to DGHI students, faculty and affiliates. Prior to joining Duke, Joe worked in academic and government settings on a wide array of public health research topics, including influenza, HIV/AIDS, dengue, tobacco, obesity/nutrition, and cancers. Joe has a master’s degree in medical geography from the University of Washington, and a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Joe’s research interests include epidemiologic study design, bias due to misclassification, causal mediation and moderation, clinical quality measurement, malaria, and obesity, among many others.
