The objective of the Land Use, Climate and Infections in Western Amazonia (LUCIA) project is (1) to understand local drivers and project plausible scenarios of Land Use in western Amazonia, including population pressures, considered as a set of local processes that contribute to global environmental change; (2) to analyze current and future vulnerabilities of selected socio-ecological systems (SES) in the western Amazonia region (Brazil, Peru, Ecuador) to the impacts of global environmental change; and (3) to develop a multidimensional metric of socioenvironmental vulnerability, composed of aggregate indicators, incorporating downscaled climate change and LULCC scenarios to support policy making for that region.
