Developing Capacity to Improve Care Transitions for Injury Patients in Tanzania

Project overview

Injuries and their subsequent disability are a global health crisis which have a rippling effect far beyond the individual years into the future. Low and middle income countries suffer this burden disproportionately; with over 90% of all global injuries and 90% of all disability-adjusted life-years lost due to injuries occurring in low and middle income countries. These limited resource settings have not orchestrated coordinated multidisciplinary efforts to support those newly suffering from disability. The goal of this important project was to build capacity to improve the health and quality of life for injury patients, by (1) understanding and addressing the care transition needs for injury patients with and without HIV, and (2) creating a resource-appropriate comprehensive care transitions strategy. Ultimately, we have built the research capacity to qualitatively develop and feasibly test this intervention.
