
Joseph Trinitas Kilasara

Joseph K. Trinitas, the only Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in Tanzania, Africa, is a pioneer working to bring the FNP role to his country. He has witnessed first-hand the burden of illness on patients and families, which drives him to attain further skills and knowledge to help the marginalized, especially in rural communities with the aim of promoting the advanced practice nursing role in Tanzania. Mr. Kilasara was one of the few nurses chosen for graduate studies and completed his master’s degree in Family Nursing Practice, at the University of Botswana. He is a senior clinical instructor at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) in Tanzania where he teaches and supervises students in the clinical settings. He is an expert in the field of simulation-based teaching and learning in the College. He has also been involved in many collaborative research activities with KCMC-DUKE collaboration since 2016 as a researcher. He has been interested in working with families in improving care of trauma patients in their home setting, alcohol related projects, healthy and aging projects as well as pain management in the emergency departments. He currently serves as a study coordinator for the Gender and Alcohol project at KCMC. He is a member of Tanzania Nursing Association and ICN/AANP student subgroup. In 2020 he was recognised as an international ambassador for American Association of Nurse Practitioners. His future career goal is to obtain a PhD that will focus on addressing the complex health needs of a diverse and dynamic population by applying scientific knowledge as the centerpiece of his career.
