The Environmental Epidemiology in Latin America Bass Connections team focuses on the challenges facing the Madre de Dios Region of the Southern Peruvian Amazon. The project integrates efforts in community health education, factors of infectious and chronic disease etiology, and environmental toxicology and risk assessment.  The project works concurrently with multiple research projects by the Pan Lab to better understand population, health and environment dynamics occurring along a recently constructed highway, a watershed experiencing development and changes related to artisanal gold mining, and an area of the Amazonian jungle that has recently been opened for oil exploration.
