Team member wins the Duke STEAM Challenge

Elsa Friis, a doctoral student in the lab, led a team to win the Duke STEAM Challenge by developing an idea for a mobile app to support mental health treatment. The proposed app, “Pocket Counselor” is based upon a mobile phone-based tool our lab is using in a pilot trial of a family therapy intervention in Kenya. The $10,000 award will be used to further develop the app for both the child and family treatment models we are developing in our lab and other interventions being developed for other disorders and contexts. The interdisciplinary student team included: Anna Haueter, Emily Cherenack, Christina Schmidt, and Sofia Stafford.
