Postdoctoral Fellow and/or Research Scientist Positions
Exposure Biology and Chemistry Laboratory (EBCL)
Nicholas School of the Environment ( Duke University) and Duke Kunshan University
EBCL: Under the direction of Prof. Junfeng (Jim) Zhang, the Exposure Biology and Chemistry Laboratory at both Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, has been established to develop novel biomarkers of environmental exposure and health effects and to apply these biomarkers in human health effects studies. The research conducted in the Laboratory focuses on the complex interactions between human host factors (genetic traits, health status, etc.) and environmental exposures (especially air pollution) in order to understand how risk factors affect human health at the individual and population levels. As such, research outcomes are expected to help design more personalized prevention and intervention strategies to reduce the harmful effects of environmental hazard.
Position: Two positions are available as either Postdoctoral Fellow or Senior Research Scientist.
One position will be primarily based at Duke University in Durham, NC and the other in Shanghai (to be relocated to Kunshan City 60 miles from Shanghai in the near future).
As part of your responsibilities, you may be asked to assist in the completion of grant proposals, assist other team members with data analysis, and some light administrative duties. You will also be expected to contribute to innovation by identifying and exploring new methods of biomarker analysis and will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students. You will have the opportunity for scientific and professional development in a successful and sustainable working environment with a collaborative team spirit and world-wide collaborations.
Qualifications: For the Senior Research Scientist Position, a Master’s Degree in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, or related field and at least 3 years of experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory is required; work experience will be waived for candidates with a doctoral degree in environmental health sciences, analytical/environmental chemistry, exposure science, or relevant field. For the Postdoctoral Fellow position, relevant fields include exposure science, environmental health, environmental toxicology, and environmental chemistry.
Besides other academic credentials, the ideal candidate will have strong skills in mass spectrometry (coupled with HPLC and GC), data analysis, ability to handle multiple priorities, and be able to communicate effectively with collaborators and team members.
How to Apply: The first step is to send a cover letter and CV to Prof. Zhang directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
